Daniel Vanderpuye, the CEO of Cruise People Ltd, has provided insight into the circumstances surrounding Black Sherif's arrest at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on July 19, 2023. In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy Prime, Vanderpuye criticized Black Sherif for not fulfilling his part of the agreement.
Vanderpuye expressed frustration over the artist's failure to honour the deal, stating that despite their attempts to resolve the matter through various means, it remained unresolved. He emphasized that Cruise People Ltd not only sought reimbursement but had also paid Multimedia to promote the event, Afro Cruise Jam, which was affected due to Black Sherif's actions.
Furthermore, Vanderpuye raised doubts about Black Sherif's reliability for future commitments, questioning whether the artist could be trusted to show up for future events. He indicated that the artist's actions had disrupted the entire process, resulting in the decision to pursue legal action.
As a result, Cruise People Ltd obtained an arrest warrant from the court, leading to Black Sherif's arrest by the police. A subsequent date, July 20, 2023, was scheduled for the parties to resolve their issues at the police headquarters in a non-confrontational manner.
This situation serves as a reminder of the significance of fulfilling contractual obligations in the entertainment industry and underscores the importance of transparent communication between artists and event organizers. The outcome of this dispute will undoubtedly have ramifications for both Black Sherif and Cruise People Ltd, and it highlights the potential consequences of not upholding agreements in such professional relationships.
